Background

The fern species Platycerium ridleyi is a member of the Polypodiaceae family. The Ridley's Staghorn Fern has the name of Sir Henry Nicholas Ridley, the first director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, who made remarkable contributions to the region's botany, natural history, and economy in the 1880s. Unlike other species, Ridley's Staghorn Fern has distinctive erect forked leaves that resemble a deer's antlers. can be found residing in their natural habitat in Borneo, Singapore (extended), the Lingga Islands, Thailand, Sumatra, and Peninsular Malaysia. The infertile nest-fronds are corrugated and fold over one another to form an enclosed chamber with a rounded base linked to the host surface. It produces two different types of fronds. The sporangia (structures that produce spores) are located in lobes that range in shape from reverse egg to elliptic. When used as an ornamental landscape plant, it is ideal to mount on the bark and place it in a location with partial shade or even full sun.

Water

Water well on dry/summer every 5 days, please wait until top 3inches soil are dry. Once the watering habit are established for maximum grows, this plant can thrive for very long time. Wait for longer gap between watering in winter as most of the wild specimen has it's habit on defending its life by dormancy. Make sure your plant medium get fairly dry.

Requires well balanced acidity soil (6.5 to 7 pH) with well drained substrate that rich in organic matters
