Background

A pedate structure in biology is a structure that resembles or has the quality of feet. It is derived from the Latin verb "pedo," which means "to furnish with feet." Botanically, the term refers to compound leaves, veins, or other structures whose divisions emerge from a central point (as in a palmate structure), but the lateral divisions are further cleft in two. It can also refer to a complex leaf having a terminal leaflet and branching axes on either side that curve outward and backward, to which leaflets are attached on the outside of the curve.
Anthurium pedatoradiatum has two subspecies, both of which are indigenous to Mexico. The species is found in southern Veracruz, Chiapas, and Tabasco, at elevations ranging from near sea level to 800 m. The majority of the collections were made above 500 m in a zone of "selva alta perennifolia" north of Ocozocoautla, a location with significant limestone outcrops. The pedatisect leaf blades with complete lobes, erect inflorescences shorter than the leaves, and the green, lanceolate spathe define the species in section Schizoplacium. Unique addition of the pedate leaf houseplant suits indoor and outdoor on tropical climate area.
