Background

Piperaceae family is composed of 8 genera and 3600 species consist of herbs, shrubs, vines, or trees (Simpson M. G., 2010). Mainly, the Piper genera known to be more over 2000 species spread around the tropics world. The genus Piper is believed to be indegenous to India, Piper name derived from the Sanskrit terms 'Pippali' which refer to the long pepper (re: Piper longum) (Oyemitan I.A., 2017). Distributed through the tropical continent of the world, and the special new speciment we have here are one such an ornamental.

Coming from the deep forest of North West Borneo part of Indonesia, this very plant found to be a vining type of the jungle floor inhabitant. The juvenile leaves blade occur to be ovate and orbiculate when matured, with main veins bold white spread evenly from the leaf base. It's glabrous lamina adaxial raised strongly pebbled. The rationate explanation of such character is it increases the ability of the leaf to capture light from all direction by increasing total area raised. The veins also channels the ability to repel and distributing water with better drainage of leaves. This is the most peculiar Piper we've came acrossed so far. Their colors, the bright green-blueish with jaggering white veins, resambles an fresh watermelon.

Wait for longer gap between watering in winter as most of the wild specimen has it's habit on defending its life by dormancy. Make sure your plant medium get fairly dry.
