Hoya is one of the Asian genera with high diversity and a well-known ornamental plant amongst the hobbyist and as a plant used for medicinal purposes. In Indonesia, at least there are 100 species known to science with diverse morphological characteristics and habits in their natural habitat and been in conservation by the government under LIPI scientists. According to one of Thailand Nature Journal, its scientific naming controversies are settled by its stable morphologic characteristics on leaf venation and pollinarium, with a handful collaboration amongst Hoya enthusiasts and taxonomists. Many Hoya enthusiasts have observed various changes in the morphological characteristics. It can be suggested as a result of adaptability to new environmental factors such as sunlight exposure, potting medium variations, watering habits, and humidity.
There is a "Jurassic" Hoya clemensiorum Green in the section Hoya, which refers to Hoya clemensii sp. Nova in the Fraterna by Ted Green. The prolific feature of beautiful venation structured the entire prehistoric reference on its silhouette. The original specimen was collected in Sabah, and the name is a tribute to botanists Joseph and Mary Strong Clemens.
Later on, this specimen can also be found originating from North Sumatera, as traders recently stated. A robust perennial climber, vining on trees, rooting along the stems, with stiff and thick leaves. It has white milky sap. A dagger-like leaf shape and crispy edges Hoya with waxy flowers, a creamy yellow corona, and plum-dark brown margins that grows up to 35 flowers per umbel. Its corona is found to be a flat surface to lobed base with a modest scent like creamy powder musk. Flowers bloom in the daylight for 6 to 8 hours. Its leaves can grow up to 20 inches long with prominent veining, with colors ranging from lighter green in the shade to darker green turning red under brighter light condition. On some occasions, we could find varieties with much darker veining and bright green to red leaf upper surfaces. If grown in a good environment with high humidity in a warm climate area, it is a simple Hoya to care. A magnificent "Jurassic" Hoya!
