Background

Scaphochlamys Baker is a genus with 44 species that ranges from southern Thailand to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatera, and northern Borneo. According to phylogenetic analyses, Scaphochlamys is related to Distichochlamys Newman and Myxochlamys Takano & Nagamas. Petiole base pulvinate (Borneo only), spiral floral bract arrangement, acroscopic flowering, first bracteole 2-keeled and arising opposite to bract; bracteole split to base, and anthers with free basal spurs distinguish Scaphochlamys from closely related genera (Searle 2010). Scaphochlamys is distinguished by acrostic inflorescence development, 2- or more-flowered cincinni (except S. biloba, S. nigra, and S. uniflora), the first bracteole of each cincinnus being 2-keeled and arising opposite the subtending bract, bracteoles splitting to the base, and pseudomonomerous ovaries. The Bornean Scaphochlamys species differs from the non-Bornean species by having a pulvinate petiole base. Here is unresolved Scaphochlamys species with the semi-leathery obtuse green to light green leaf. Coming from the Borneo with no specific recorded area of its origin habitat. Nice addition to the garden that suits the warm and humid environment.

Water well on dry/summer every 5 days, please wait until top 3inches soil are dry. Once the watering habit are established for maximum grows, this plant can thrive for very long time. Wait for longer gap between watering in winter as most of the wild specimen has it's habit on defending its life by dormancy. Make sure your plant medium get fairly dry.

Requires well balanced acidity soil (6.5 to 7 pH) with well drained substrate that rich in organic matters
