Background

The tropical plant Acanthus montanus comes from Africa. This can is found in Angola, Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Gabon, Gulf of Guinea Islands, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Zambia, and Zimbabwe living in its natural habitat. The name of the genus is derived from the Greek word akantha, which means spine and refers to the serrated margins of some species' leaves. Specifically refers to mountains in the area. The shrubby, spreading perennial Acanthus montanus, sometimes known as mountain thistle, is cultivated for both its lovely foliage and its striking flower spikes. This species, which grows as a sprawling forest understory plant at a high height, is one of the garden plants that can withstand both cold and heat. Different substrate types are OK, but poorly draining soil is not. The ideal addition to the landscape, from the shady to the sunny areas.
