Background

Hellenia speciosa is species of flowering herbaceous plant in the Costaceae family. Despite having a similar name to edible ginger, crepe ginger is actually a very distant relative. It is a tall, imposing landscape shrub with thick, spiral-shaped leaves that are dark green in color. In locations without frost, this Costaceae can reach a height of 10 feet, but it usually stays tiny and is grown in pots. The unusual-looking flowers start to bloom in late summer or early fall. They develop on red 4-in. cone-shaped bracts, and each cone contains numerous 2-in. pure white crinkled blooms. The common name for crepe ginger comes from how the blossoms resemble crepe paper. The lovely red bracts in the shape of cones are still present after the flowers have faded. One of unique variegated specimen here has stricking white to pale yellow to pale green variation of variegated foliar. Stunning addition to your lovely garden.

Water

Water well on dry/summer every 5 days, please wait until top 3inches soil are dry. Once the watering habit are established for maximum grows, this plant can thrive for very long time. Wait for longer gap between watering in winter as most of the wild specimen has it's habit on defending its life by dormancy. Make sure your plant medium get fairly dry.
