Background

Piper betle Linn. is one of the species that been used in traditional medicinal treatment. This species is a variety with different morphology characters compare to common Piper betle Linn.
Traded in Indonesia as Piper 'black sp. Papua'. The leaf are hairless with leathery thick surface and raising lamina. Adaxialy has corrugated structure and shine leaves. Main vein are sunken and secondary veins grows from leaf base. Leaf base heart shape attached to red-deep red petiole. Most part of the stems are boxy and shows prominent ridges and furrows. Grow relatively small, from 2cm width to 10cm leaf. Most of the plants leaf shown black or darken deep green color. It has wooden stem that established mostly by the planting medium. A strong addition to your elusive dark pebbled leaf collection.
