Background

Platycerium wandae is type of special fern that grow epiphytic in the family of Polypodiaceae. It can only be found in Papua New Guinea. Platycerium wandae is distinguished from other Platycerium species by the following traits: (1) Leave foliage is asymmetric with unequal lobes; (2) Soral patches are located in sinuses near the base of the leaf; the ultimate lobes are sterile; (3) Lateral soral patches have extremely short, simple, lateral sterile lobes. Platycerium wandae are heliophilous through to semi-shade-tolerant epiphytes that grow alone, high, in lowland swamp forests and dry lower montane rain forests. They also thrive in rubber and coconut plantations in lowland areas, as well as on roadside trees at altitudes between sea level and 1000 m. It is considered one of the largest Platycerium available in the nature making it more interesting to collect.

Water

Water well on dry/summer every 5 days, please wait until top 3inches soil are dry. Once the watering habit are established for maximum grows, this plant can thrive for very long time. Wait for longer gap between watering in winter as most of the wild specimen has it's habit on defending its life by dormancy. Make sure your plant medium get fairly dry.

Soil

Requires well balanced acidity soil (6.5 to 7 pH) with well drained substrate that rich in organic matters
