Background

The genus Amydrium, which was first described as a genera and species in 1863, was later defined as a member of the Monsteroideae tribe and as having a unique trait from many other genera. Having two ovules in each ovary makes them the sole genus in the Monsteroideae family. Around the West to North Sumatera to Malaysia Peninsular, Amydrium humile heart-shaped leaves are most common above 1.000 meters asl.
The only Amydrium species that doesn't flower on climbing stems is A. humile. Coriaceous, occasionally almost subsucculent, green to greyish leaves are dispersed along rooted sterile branches with internodes that frequently reach 20 cm. It grows in sprawling colonies. These dispersed nodes, from which the inflorescences arise, give rise to condensed branches with three or more leaves.

Flowering shoots have fully developed leaf lamina, and the base of the leaf lamina is cordate. The inflorescents, which develop berries that range in color from white to orange-red when ripe, are typically found on non-climbing shoots that are covered in a thick layer of humus and huge trees. Rarely, they can also be found on limestone slides. Regarded as uncommon because to severe habitat degradation caused by human activity.
